Wingate University is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach to lead and manage all aspects of its NCAA Division II tennis programs. This position is responsible for building and sustaining championship-level programs that align with Wingate Athletics’ commitment to excellence in student-athlete experience, academic achievement, competitive success, and institutional impact.

About Wingate Athletics
Wingate University has been a member of NCAA Division II’s South Atlantic Conference (SAC) since 1989. The university aspires to be a premier athletics program in the SAC; qualify for NCAA Division II championships; and consistently compete in regional and national competition. Wingate offers 27 NCAA Division II sports, including 16 women’s sports (acro & tumbling, basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, field hockey, flag football, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, and indoor/outdoor track and field) and 12 men’s sports (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and indoor/outdoor track and field).
For the past 17 years, Wingate has won the South Atlantic Conference Echols Athletic Excellence Award, an award presented annually to the SAC member institution that earns the highest overall finish based on final regular season standings. In fact, Wingate is the all-time award leader in SAC Excellence Cups as well as SAC championships, SAC scholar-athletes, SAC President’s Award winners and SAC Players of the Year. Wingate also ranks top among all SAC and NCAA DII schools in Academic All-America picks. The Bulldogs have captured 147 conference championships as well as 13 NCAA Regional Championships and have a total of 40 individual national champions. Wingate has reached the pinnacle of sports competition, with national championships in 2016 in Men’s Soccer, in 2021 in Baseball, and in 2023 and 2025 in Men’s Cross Country.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Coaching
Serve as the head coach for both men’s and women’s tennis programs
Plan, organize, and conduct practices and competitions
Develop and implement competitive strategies and comprehensive player development plans
Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA and conference regulations
Recruiting
Identify, evaluate, and recruit student-athletes who align with Wingate University’s academic and athletic standards
Develop and maintain a strong recruiting pipeline at the regional, national, and international levels
Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA and conference regulations
Student-Athlete Development
Promote academic success, leadership development, and personal growth
Monitor academic progress and support retention and graduation goals
Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes
Program Administration
Manage program budgets, scheduling, travel, and equipment
Organize and oversee camps, clinics, and fundraising initiatives
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with all institutional, NCAA, and conference policies
Staff & Facility Management
Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches (if applicable)
Coordinate tennis facility usage, maintenance, and scheduling in collaboration with athletics administration
External Engagement & Advancement
Represent Wingate University and its tennis programs in a professional and positive manner
Engage with alumni, donors, and community stakeholders
Support fundraising efforts and the mission of the Bulldog Club
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
Collegiate coaching experience (head or assistant level)
Demonstrated success in recruiting and player development
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Knowledge of NCAA rules and commitment to compliance
Preferred
Experience coaching both men’s and women’s tennis programs
Proven record of competitive success
Experience with fundraising and program development
