Under the guidance of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Head Women’s Soccer Coach is responsible for leading and developing Wofford College’s women’s soccer program. This role includes training student-athletes to achieve success both on and off the field, with a focus on recruiting and retaining high-quality athletes and students. The ideal candidate will have experience building a competitive program and a commitment to excellence with integrity. This position requires travel, evening, and weekend work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Training and Development
Oversee all on-field training and coaching activities. Having a philosophy for competitive team play is important.
Organize and conduct productive practice sessions.
Develop student-athletes holistically, fostering growth both on and off the field.
Collaboration with the wellness team.
Recruitment and Team Management
Recruit Division I level prospective student-athletes.
Hire and supervise the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach.
Program Administration
Prepare and manage the program’s annual budget.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Report facility and equipment needs to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and coordinate purchases.
Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with NCAA, Southern Conference, and institutional rules.
Provide team rosters, eligibility information, and coaching staff details to Athletics Communications and Compliance staff. Scheduling and Logistics
Work with the sports supervisor and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to plan game schedules.
Organize team travel arrangements. Collaboration and Communication
Partner with the Athletic Communications Director on team publicity, statistics, and photos.
Recommend athletes for awards and recognition.
Participate in social media activities with a focus on engagement.
Academic Support and Conduct
Oversee academic expectations for team members.
Develop and enforce training rules and team conduct standards. Fundraising and Outreach
Participate in fundraising activities through the Terrier Club and other College initiatives.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Previous experience in college coaching.
Skills and Abilities
Strong people skills to lead and motivate a team.
Player development.
Effective communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to inspire and engage.
Experience in higher education, fostering relationships with alumni, donors, faculty, and senior leadership.
Strong analytical skills, professional judgment, and a positive, creative approach to problem-solving.
An understanding of a rigorous academic environment.
Other Requirements
Willingness to travel frequently and work evenings or weekends as needed.
