Portland State University women’s soccer team is seeking candidates for a part-time Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach whose primary responsibility is to develop goalkeepers. The desired start date for this position is July 2023. Salary for this position is $20,000, non-negotiable, for a 10 month period. There are several opportunities to generate supplemental income through camps and youth soccer in the area.
PSU boasts 13 varsity sports (5 men’s sports/8 women’s sports) at the NCAA Division I level that compete in the Big Sky Conference.
Position Summary:
Primary responsibility is assisting the Viking Soccer program as the goalkeeping coach.
Duties to include:
designing and implementing developmental plans for our goalkeepers
organizing goalie and providing on-field training instruction
participating in game-day goalkeeping and defensive strategies
managing regular communication and feedback with all goalkeepers in the program
utilizing video analysis as a technical and tactical learning tool
contributing to discussions on full team strategies and working collaboratively with the rest of the coaching staff
assisting in evaluation and recruitment of prospective student-athletes
running goalkeeper training sessions at ID camps and clinics
Goalkeeper Assistant Coach must become familiar with and work to remain compliant with Portland State University, Big Sky, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Additional Information:
Portland State is on a quarterly academic system. Candidates will be expected to work various hours in coordination with our quarter system.
Fall Season Hours: August through September various hours seven days a week. From the last week of September, when school starts, through tournament play in November hours will be approximately 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. Hours increase on travel weekends.
Winter Season Hours: There are no required work hours for the month of December other than a potential ID camp date. January through March hours are 5 hours a day, two days a week; with the last two weeks of March being a vacation period.
Spring Season Hours: April through May hours are 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. There are 5 weekend dates that require local travel for Spring competition, extending work hours. There are no required June hours. The last two weeks of July it is desirable that candidates be able to assist in program preparation for the upcoming season, hours are flexible. Optimally, candidates would be interested in camp coordinator duties assisting the Camp Director with the facilitation of NIKE summer camps.
Candidates will be expected to travel for away games in both Fall and Spring. Travel duties include driving team vans and rental cars.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Previous goalkeeping experience as player at the collegiate level
Previous goalkeeping experience as a coach at the collegiate level
Proficient with digital video editing/analysis and athletics recruiting software.
Strong organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to collaborate and provide feedback to obtain positive outcomes.
High ethical and moral standards
