US Club Soccer and the Soccer Alliance of Arizona is seeking a commissioner to develop and grow leagues, programs, and services for soccer in Arizona.
The League Commissioner will be the face of the organization, execute the strategic direction as laid out by the Executive Board and work closely with the Director of Operations. The primary responsibilities aside from being the face of the organization, is to ensure a high-level of execution leagues, programs, and services and to serve as a conduit between the Executive Board, the Technical Committee, and the Membership. In addition, the Commissioner is responsible for the execution of scheduling leagues, Cups and Youth Academy events.
The position is full time with responsibilities outlined below. This person will be expected to work from a home office, but occasional travel may be required. The individual will need to reside in Arizona.
The Commissioner will report to the Soccer Alliance of Arizona Executive Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic
Participate and execute all strategic initiatives as determined by the organization
Attend all Governing Board and Technical Director meetings, being prepared to discuss successes and challenges of the leagues, programs, and services throughout the year
Implement/communicate the vision of the Board & Technical Committee to the member clubs of the league. To strategically position the league in the best possible manner for success. Need to stay up to date with the changing youth landscape and be in touch with other member leagues to find ways to collaborate
Project and liaise with the Managing Director the number of fields needed to facilitate leagues, Cups and Youth Academy
To work in conjunction with the Technical Committee to recruit member clubs to the league
Management
Schedule all games for Soccer Alliance of Arizona (SAAZ) Leagues (NPL 1 and 2, AZDL Leagues and Youth Academy Events)
Proficiency using GotSport scheduling software
Reschedule make up games as required
Coordinate with referee assignors for game coverage
Booking of facilities and to ensure fields are properly lined. Be facility contact person
Manage all game reports and standings throughout the regular season
Work with Director of Operations and Discipline Committee to be a liaison to the referees. Collect supplemental reports and to send notifications of suspensions to the clubs
Gameday contact for all challenges that arise at a facility
Orchestrate operations and staffing needs for league, programs, cups, or other events
Chair the Discipline Committee and be responsible for implementing suspensions for sendoff reports
Work with Association Leadership for pre-planning for 2023-2024 season
Communicate with Director of Operations and staff to recognize and reschedule canceled games
Schedule SAAZ Cups (Champions and State)
Oversight
To work in conjunction with the Director of Operations and to help oversee future staff members, committees, etc.
To service members clubs by listening to their successes & concerns and addressing issues that member clubs are having.
Coach and Player Development
To organize coaching education courses to assist member clubs in educating their coaching staff
To build out the player identification program for the league (id2/Player Development Program)
Membership
Hold 2 Club Directors meeting a year. Explain the vision of the league and share the responsibilities of the clubs, teams, coaches and their obligations to the league
Strategically plan and assist clubs in setting up referee development courses
Strategically plan and entertain all opportunities for field complexes
Manage Relations with member clubs
Financial
Oversee and track registration fees in GotSport for league, programs, cups, and other events. Ensure all events are appropriately reconciled with the Director of Operations
Safeguarding and Compliance
Monitor and oversee all activities within the organization to ensure best practices are being executed that does not expose the organization.
The Soccer Alliance of Arizona (SAAZ) was established in 2022 and is a robust league platform created to elevate youth soccer standards in the state by ensuring a more professional experience for families, players, coaches and clubs.
Leadership from the founding clubs formed the technical committee to oversee all technical aspects. This aligns with US Club Soccer’s guiding principles that soccer people should make soccer decisions, local decisions should be made locally and the sport deserves professional management.
The Soccer Alliance of Arizona consists of multiple divisions to accompany all levels of play. At the top competitive level is an NPL division with U-13 through U-19 boys and girls teams. Divisions are offered for every level of competitive player in Arizona.
