General Position Description: The head coach for men’s and women’s cross-country will also serve as the assistant men’s and women’s track & field coach. As head coach of the cross-country program, this person will provide guidance and direction to student athletes, organize practices and competitions, and maintain positive interactions with student-athletes, department staff, university colleagues, alumni, and benefactors. As the assistant track & field coach, this person will help and support the head track & field coach with assigned administrative duties while also serving as the primary coach for the distance runners.
Responsibilities: 1.Organize and oversee all aspects of Viterbo intercollegiate cross-country programs. 2.Serve as the assistant track & field coach while serving as primary coach for distance runners. 3.Recruit top quality student-athletes to Viterbo University. 4.Plan practices, prepare team for competition, coordinate off-season training program. 5.Schedule competition, coordinate travel, and manage budget. 6.Monitor and foster academic progress of student-athletes. 7.Coordinate team involvement with community outreach or service projects. 8.Generate booster club support and assist with departmental fund-raisers. 9.Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches. 10.Support and adhere to all institutional policies outlined in the employee handbook. 11.Teach and embrace the five core values of the NAIA’s “Champions of Character” initiative. 12.Ensure that all program operations are complaint with Viterbo, NSAA, and NAIA rules 13.Attend all required departmental, university, and conference meetings. 14.Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred. Background in education, coaching or athletics administration desired. Experience as a successful high school or college coach preferred. Understanding and appreciation of Catholic and Franciscan values; demonstrated knowledge of the sport and ability to train and develop student-athletes, commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes; good written, oral, and interpersonal skills; and proficiency in computer use including Microsoft Office. Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
