Bob Jones University Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach
Position Summary: Assists with the coaching, organization, administration, and development of a successful NCAA DIII college women’s soccer program. Complies with all rules and regulations of the NCAA DIII and Bob Jones University (BJU) as well as those of the BJU Women’s Soccer team. Failure to comply with regulations will result in disciplinary action including up to termination.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assists in the planning and implementation of details in all aspects of the BJU Women's Soccer program, including team organization, player selection and evaluations, practice planning and implementation, and game planning and strategy. Represents BJU at campus, alumni, and community functions. * Coaches/instructs team members individually, and in groups, and able to demonstrate soccer-related skills and techniques. May coach/manage a designated skill development area or group of positions. Evaluates individual player skill performance and provides instruction in areas of deficiency as required. Reviews video with players to evaluate skills and determine needed areas of development. * Supervises and organizes various tasks related to training and games as determined by the head coach. * Organizes and produces scouting reports/information on opponents in a manner determined by the head coach. * Assists with team discipline, player counseling, spiritual development, and related matters requiring discretion, decision making and independent judgment. * Coordinates the recruitment of prospective students to BJU, requiring the identification of academically qualified prospective student athletes, ongoing communication with prospects, initiation of applications and matriculation of prospects. * Participates in the evaluation of club and high school talent through high school visits, on sight game observations at high school, regional, state, and national competitions, and film/video review and analysis. * Will supervise and work with the team manager to make sure gear inventory is current and will conduct the ordering of required individual gear by the approved BJU vendor. This person will also be responsible for ordering any replacement gear needed during the season. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Ability to travel to on and off campus games, work alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends. * Knowledge in the operational use of computer and video technology. * Successful passage of Annual NCAA rules test; current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Coaching diploma/licensure from the United Soccer Coaches and/or USSF is a plus or should show a willingness to work towards these. * Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes. * Effective communicative and public relation skills. * Strong organizational and administrative skills. * Competent knowledge of sport specific techniques, skill development and game planning. * An understanding of how to build and manage a team. * The ability to understand and articulate program needs. * Demonstrated competency in helping to meet program objectives, working independently, supervising others, and helping to establish program priorities. * An ability to communicate with and interact positively with students, faculty, staff and the broader BJU community. * The ability to develop a safe and functional working environment. * An appreciation of and a willingness to adhere to the NCAA Division III philosophy, rules, and regulations. * Ability to provide competent suggestions in relation to game and practice analysis. * Ability to follow directions and accept decisions. COMPUTER SKILLS: * Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint * Video editing programs – i.e. Synergy, Crossover, etc.
