Job Description Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), a National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA), and Scenic West Athletic Conference member, seeks candidates for the position of Head Coach/Coordinator, Men's & Women's Soccer for the Athletic Department.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the head coach will be responsible for the organization and management of the Men's & Women's Soccer programs. This individual must have strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills in order to teach/coach, recruit and interact with others both inside and outside the Community College.
Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology/Physiology, Education or related field from an accredited institution and two years experience in coaching at the college level or significant experience coaching at the high school level or equivalent. A combination of education and experience may be considered. 2. Collegiate level playing experience.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Five years experience in coaching at the college level or significant experience coaching at the high school level or equivalent required and/or collegiate playing experience. 2. Master's degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology/Physiology, Education or related field from an accredited institution. 3. Demonstrated experience effectively teaching and coaching students in both a team and individual settings. 4. Experience recruiting student-athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities: Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
1. Academics: commitment to academic excellence recognizing that success in the classroom is necessary for success on the field. Head coach will be in charge of monitoring the student-athletes academics; demonstrate the ability to communicate with the athletics academic advisor; monitor weekly mandatory study hall; check Starfish early alert system daily for positive and negative “flags” and progress reports. 2. Recruiting: identifies prospective student-athletes qualified for admission to Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC); effectively communicates with prospective student-athletes, parents and coaches; effectively communicates and coordinates recruitment efforts with TMCC's Office of Admissions & Records. 3. Coaching/Student-Athlete Experience: demonstrates knowledge of, and ability to develop sport skills, strategies and philosophy; promotes student-athlete well-being and provides appropriate mentoring to student-athletes and assistant coach. 4. Program Administration: operates within College, Scenic West Athletic Conference and NJCAA guidelines; schedules practices; maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies; carries out team travel according to established policies and procedures; effectively communicates within the Department and with the TMCC community on matters pertaining to program. 5. Supervision: identifies, hires, trains and evaluates assistant coach, including volunteers; ensures that assistant coach/volunteer adhere to all TMCC, Scenic West Athletic Conference and NJCAA guidelines. 6. Game Day: assists with the set-up operations associated with the game day. 7. Budget Administration: Operates within budgetary guidelines established by TMCC and Athletics Director. Facilitates fundraising efforts to augment allocated resources. 8. Marketing, Fundraising, and Community Engagement: assists the Director of Athletics with all efforts in this area. Coordinates all activities and donor relations through the Athletics Director's office. 9. During off-season, will spend 50% of time working in a coordinator role in another unit on campus based on the candidates experience. Other areas could include Recruitment, Financial Aid, Fitness Center etc. 10. Comply with the TMCC Code of Excellence. 11. Represent TMCC in a manner that positively portrays its programs, personnel, and philosophies. 12. Be a positive role model and provide leadership to the team using communication skills at the highest standard. 13. Other duties as assigned.
Time Commitment: 1. Finalist should expect to spend 20 hours per week in practices and game activities from August 1 through the end of the season/NJCAA tournament. 2. Finalist should expect to spend eight hours per week with his/her team in the spring term. 3. Finalist will be required to schedule, manage, and monitor mandatory student-athlete study hall. Finalists should expect to spend approximately 3 hours per week during the academic year. 4. Finalist will be expected to serve as a coordinator in another unit on campus which will require 20 hours per week year round. 5. Finalist will be expected to travel to away competitions with their respective teams with the team leaving on Wednesday and returning on either Saturday or Sunday. 6. Finalist will be required to be at all home matches, which will be at least six dates, occurring on Thursday and Saturday. If the budget allows, finalist will be encouraged to schedule non-conference opponents within 200 miles of the TMCC campus.
Salary Information: This is a fully benefited position. Minimum salary is $48,298, Salary placement is dependent on education and experience.
