Lightning Soccer Club is a premier youth soccer club serving over 60 towns in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont. Located in the Connecticut Valley near Dartmouth College, Lightning Soccer offers competitive soccer players ages 3 -19 the chance to learn, train, and develop under the guidance of qualified coaches. Lightning travel teams compete in state and regional leagues including NH Soccer League and the New England Premiership. Several LSC teams have won the NH State Cup and have gone on to successfully compete at the Region 1 National Championships.
Since its inception in 1983, Lightning SC has trained and developed dozens of soccer players who have moved on to play at the collegiate level and beyond. Many of these players started with Lightning SC when they were under 10 years old. Lightning SC is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 tax-free status for donors and sponsors.
Reporting to the LSC Managing Director, the Director of Coaching (DOC) will direct and supervise the Club coaching staff and is ultimately responsible for meeting the Club’s overall objectives relative to player and team development.
The DOC runs the day to day coaching and training operations of LSC. The position assists the Managing Director with strategic planning, coach management/evaluation and team formation. The position is also responsible for creating and implementing the coach development and coach education aspects of the club and oversees the player development programs on the boys and the girl’s side.
Licensure: USSF A/B license
Playing experience: College and/or professional preferred
Coaching experience: DOC experience preferred or a minimum 5 years youth coaching experience or 3 years as professional or college coach
Demonstrated leadership qualities
Excellent communication and dispute resolution skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to relate to and motivate youth and adults
Possess integrity and follow ethically sound standards
Committed to working a non-traditional work schedule
Proven computer skills, including ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, registration and website management programs
Ability to create and execute a coaching vision for the club
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit, assign, and evaluate qualified coaches
Create and implement coach development curriculum for all coaches in the club
Oversee player development and help the program director create curriculum and player development plans for all teams and ages
Develop a standard player evaluation & tracking process
Coach one or more teams as necessary
Coach skills clinics and camps as necessary
Attend training sessions and matches of each team throughout each season
Coordinate an outreach program with the goal of increasing LSC enrollment
Enforce LSC code of conduct for coaches, players, and parents
Design and administer team tryouts in consultation with program director
Assist program director with team formation process
Assist program director in the organization of skills clinics and camps
Assist program director in the design of a parent education program
Assist in the design of a college recruiting program and educate players and parents on college playing opportunities
Assist managing director with creating and executing strategic plan for the Club
Represent Club at functions, league meetings, and events as directed
Responsible for communications with leagues, players, parents and any other stakeholders on technical matters
Additional Salary Information: Compensation will be tied to national averages for similar positions. Candidate experience level will be taken into consideration.
