The University of Southern Maine’s Department of Athletics seeks applicants for a full-time, 10 month flexible schedule (mid-August to mid-June), position of Head Coach: Women’s Soccer/Lecturer.
The Head Women’s Soccer Coach will perform all duties associated with effectively directing a competitive, compliant, and successful Division III intercollegiate soccer program. The women’s soccer coach will provide leadership and guidance to team members and create an environment where student-athletes are challenged, supported, and can experience success while growing as individuals. He/she will direct all practice sessions, coach all games, travel with the team, develop an effective recruitment and retention program, and maintain appropriate standards for the program. The women’s soccer coach will also perform additional duties as assigned by the director of athletics, determined by the successful candidate’s skill set and the needs of the department. The women’s soccer coach will follow institutional and departmental policies, attend all department meetings, support departmental and institutional initiatives, work to support student success, be involved in community service and outreach activities, including fund raising, and will be focused on student satisfaction, customer service, and take part in annual program review. The women’s soccer coach will represent the department and institution in University, state, regional and national conferences and meetings.

USM enjoys a rich history of athletic success in NCAA Division III and has long been considered one of the finest non-scholarship programs in the nation. In addition to the long-term national prominence of the baseball and women’s basketball programs, the men’s basketball, field hockey, women’s lacrosse, softball, and men’s tennis teams have all made appearances in the NCAA championship tournament; both the men’s basketball and field hockey teams advanced to participate in the NCAA Final Four, while men and women’s track and wrestling have risen to become among the very best individual sport programs at the regional level. In addition to team success, the Huskies have sent many individual performers to compete in NCAA National Championships competitions, with several earning All-American honors and still others being crowned as national champions.
Hannaford Field, the Huskies state-of-the-art synthetic turf playing facility, is home to the Huskies women’s soccer program in addition to men’s soccer, field hockey and both lacrosse programs. Currently, Musco LED lighting is being installed at this beautiful playing surface and will be complete within a matter of weeks and ready for play in the fall. Future plans call for the construction of stadium seating, a press box, concession, store and public facilities.
The Costello Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art sports complex which includes a 300'x200' field house that features a 200-meter competitive track, four tennis courts, and three basketball courts. The complex boasts the state’s only Olympic-sized ice arena, in addition to the Warren G. Hill Gymnasium, which includes competition basketball and volleyball courts. The Costello Sports Complex also includes a modern fitness facility, learning center, sports medicine and athletic training labs, locker rooms, and a two-level office connector for faculty and staff.

Qualifications: Required: •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with an emphasis on teaching, coaching, or athletic leadership •A minimum of three years of coaching experience at the high school or college level or equivalent •Playing and/or coaching experience •Experiences working with student-athletes in an educational setting and in a team or sports setting •Strong interpersonal skills •Commitment to student development and student success •Strong work ethic and a commitment to student-athletes Preferred: •Master’s degree with emphasis on teaching, coaching, or athletic leadership •A minimum of three years of coaching experience at the college level •Previous experience working with college student-athletes in an educational setting •Playing experience at the collegiate level •Classroom teaching experience or equivalent training •Administrative competency and additional related skills •Experience directing summer sports camps and clinics
Salary range: low to mid 40’s
